Involved in redox regulation of the cell. Can reduce H(2)O(2) and short chain organic, fatty acid, and phospholipid hydroperoxides. May play a role in the regulation of phospholipid turnover as well as in protection against oxidative injury. Catalytic activity: 2 R'-SH + ROOH = R'-S-S-R' + H2O + ROH. Subunit: Homotetramer. May interact with HTR2A. Cellular Localization: Cytoplasm. Lysosome. Note=Also found in lung secretory organelles. The active site is the redox-active Cys-47 oxidized to Cys-SOH. Cys-SOH may rapidly react with a Cys-SH of the other subunit to form an intermolecular disulfide with a concomitant homodimer formation. The enzyme may be subsequently regenerated by reduction of the disulfide by thioredoxin . Irreversibly inactivated by overoxidation of Cys-47 (to Cys-SO(3)H) upon oxidative stress. Belongs to the ahpC/TSA family. Rehydrin subfamily. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
