Good receiver but quality does vary!
This is a replacement as the first one was deaf as a post! This replacement is leagues above the first one. Stations are easily received and lower noise levels too.Happy with this but just wish it was made of better materials rather than plastic!!My last point is that I received it with absolutely no protective packaging from amazon at all. Just an amazon brown paper bag!!! Shocking 😕

Works well and good for the price
Owned one for a year. Works well as a receiver and does exactly what it should.Purchased for FAX reception as well as NAVTEX. Useful to get marine forcasts and maps.Tuning the unit takes a little practice as speed of turning the control can cause very quick changes in frequency. There is no lock button, so knock the receiver and it will loose frequency and you have to re-tune.There is no illumination for frequency readout, but it has good contrast. There are 10 memory channels, enough for general use.Use either a whip antenna with a pre-amp or a long-wire. 10 metres long and 5 metres high great reception. For the money, it is good. Very stable and great as a second communications receiver or to see if you enjoy finding interesting broadcasts. Kinloss Rescue comes in loud and clear from the West country!

A great little receiver
I wanted something with a decent specification at a reasonable price to re-kindle my shortwave listening days. As a teenager I was used to building my own radios and listened with interest to Ham radio and worldwide broadcasts but I didn't have the enthusiasm to start from scratch. Some internet research led me to this receiver which on first impression is really good. Although the dimensions are given I didn't realise how small this is, similar to a car radio. The radio doesn't come with a mains power adaptor but I knew I already had one so be prepared to purchase one for indoor use if you don't already have one. Straight out of the box without an earth connection and with the supplied wire aerial strung up along the window frame and over to the door in a downstairs room, I received English transmissions from Indonesia and Thailand in the first few minutes.I have had this a week now and used it over 4 evenings for 1 or 2 hours a night and received Vietnam, China, Islamic republic-Iran, India, Kuwait, Romania, Turkey, America and many more including of course several transmissions of our own BBC world service. Overall the performance is good, not the most sensitive and it doesn't have a very narrow bandwidth but at the price its' really amazing.I can't wait to set it up in an upstairs room and set up the aerial in the loft and connect a proper earth to see what else it brings in. I think building an ATU will be of benefit but thats a project for the new year. Overall i would rate it 8.5/10 and is very easy to use.As a negative it doesn't have a headphone outlet which is quite annoying and the display isn't backlit which would be useful and worth paying a couple of extra pounds for these features. To anyone thinking of buying I think you could do a lot worse. I enjoy using it and have found on the internet [...] which lists all the transmissions so I can tune in a station then find out from the frequency what I am listening to if it is not in English - very useful.

Great Reciever
Although I did not purchase mine through Amazon I can say that this is a great little receiver, built in the UK! Sure it does not have the bells and whistles of other radios however it is easy to use, no complicated menus to learn and above all works really well, there is a rich tone to the audio. One thing is to remember that it will overload on a big antenna, the wire is fine for SW broadcast, I have a SO239 adaptor on mine so can run a coax fed antenna with an ATU attached, simply put this is a gem and a keeper.

Not bad for the price
Not bought from Amazon, but owned for several years...A reasonable comms RX for general listening and quite capable of picking up stations from all over the world. Mine has been used for Navtex and weatherfax recording via a computer. Just don't expect miracles at this price. It needs an antenna and one that is preferably away from the property to reduce general interference. If not, try one in the loft.... Better than nothing...If you want to listen to short-wave, then look for second-hand units Icom or Yaesu or similar. They will be 10+ years old though. What's GoodSmall footprint...Easy to use... Reasonable audio quality.... Low power consumption and 12 volts supply as most newer pieces of equipment... Nice internal speaker...What's NotDisplay is not illuminated so if squelch is set on, you can easily forget to turn it off and it's nice to be woken with someone talking at three a.m........ Tuning knob is weighted and spins easily, but it can rotate if desk or case is knocked and that is not good for sea use.
