I bought the portable version- it’s perfectly compact with a retractable head- which is the perfect length to reach into shallow votives, to candles a few inches below the rim, which is what i primarily got it for (specifically for oil candles which sit 2” deep within a glass votive) and it’s perfect!The best thing about this arc lighter is... well... it’s just so darn cool! Like lighting your candle with a light saber! It also takes much less effort to egnight than traditional stick lighters and probably safer too as there is no actual flame emitted. You just release the retractable head by switching the red safety away from you, which below reveals the tv remote-like power button- give it a light press and hold for desired amount of time, pass through the candle wick, and candle= lit! Great thing is it doesn’t get hot so you can imediately bring the head back in and put it in your pocket, heat free! Also, it’s impossible to ignite on accident while stored- and long as you bring the head back inside the chamber after use, which quickly becomes pretty second nature to do.Havnt had it long enough to speak for battery life, but it did come at least partially charged and after lighting 20-30 candles daily, plus using as a cool party trick, I’ve still not had to charge it since it arrived 3 days ago.So far, reccommend this lighter! Will update if that changes!

Great product. I previously ordered the TackLife lighter that looks almost identical besides the colors. It was $2 cheaper but super crappy quality. It came in a nondescript box with a tiny instruction booklet in about 10 languages. It worked for less than 2 days and broke. I loved this particular style so I searched and found this brand. I was skeptical as it looked SO similar, what if it broke like the other? Received it in a nice box with better instructions. No issues yet! P.s. My friend cracked open the tacklife and realized that it was barely soldered and a connection came loose. He also said some of the wiring looked twisted. He was able to resolder and fix it. If you don't want to deal with this...go with the Surplus lighter.

Much safer than the one I used to use as those flip to open ones can come open in a pocket and the button can depress. So definitely recommend this over other designs.

Now, we have access to these arc style lighters, which offer a sizeable improvement over standard flame style lighters. This lighter here uses electricity to fire an arc between 2 electrodes that is much hotter than a flame but does lack the surface area of one, making it only useful for lighting a small surface. But, given its higher temperature, will light the objects much faster. Looking at the unit itself, it's roughly the same size of a standard cheapo lighter. The left side of the unit has an LED charging indicator and a micro-USB port. On the front is a slider that pushes the electrodes to the top. It also reveals the button underneath. This design is quite smart as it ensures the lighter won't turn on in your bag or pocket. The built-in battery is 220mAh and battery life will depend on how much you use it. Arc lighters don't need replacing or refueling, as you just charge them up once they die - making them quite economical too. As you can see in the video, the lighter has no issues while lighting stuff on the wind. I recommend this product!

This is the first arc lighter I've had. I like the way it has no lid - it just extends the tip out and opens up when you push the slider. Lighting something with the arc is still fun after many months of owning this. Well you may want to read the description - if it came with a lid, I have tossed it out.I don't smoke so I now buy candles just so I have things I can light.If you pull this out in front of a crowd, expect it to be passed around. It gets lots of attention quickly.I don't use this a whole lot so I don't charge it often. I don't think it ever shows me charge status, but I haven't charged it in a month or 2 and it will arc fine right now.

I thought this was a good idea for a product and I was right. I hate lighters because they don’t last long at all. I bought this lighter and it worked good at first but failed not long after. I contacted customer service and they sent me a new one a few days later. The response time was great but the best part is they didn’t badger me with questions and just wanted to make sure I was happy with the product. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

I needed to switch from traditional single use lighters to reduce my waste and decided to start with an arc lighter. This lighter works great for a pipe as I can light the contents with no trouble. I noticed some comments saying it was too hard to use for a pipe but if you play with the distance of the arc and the way you draw, no issues at all. I plan on buying a few more for myself and for gifts. You can charge this Cool Tesla Lighter with a standard micro USB cable in the powered USB port. Take 1-1.5 hour full charge, and electric lighter can be used more than 1000 times. The battery can be charged more than 500 times. Don't need to use butane fuel to refill gas for it and different from normal lighter. Great chemical free lighter that I can recharge. As for the charge and using it pretty regularly throughout the day, I need to charge it twice, but that is hardly as issue when I am using it several times an hour all day.

I love this thing! It works great and kind of looks like a taser when you light it up. Everyone in my family wants one after seeing me use mine.
