I had to!
I’m a huge X-Files fan and I needed to add this to my growing X-Files collection! Haven’t read it yet but I will.

I love Scully ♥
*Original review on Goodreads & My Blog*Young Scully. She's a loner, mostly hanging out with her sister, Melissa, taking martial arts, doing yoga, oh and going to school. She does have a little love interest for a bit =) ❤There is some crazy stuff going on where Dana and her family moved. Kids are getting killed in a numerous amount car accidents. Dana is seeing ghosts, the devil or angels or something.and THEN . . .some things are found out and this is what Scully becomes in her adult life.Granted, I can understand why after all of this stuff goes down, Scully would be a skeptic. BUT <-- there's always a but . . . just because this one super cray incident happened when she was younger doesn't mean that it's always some kind of a hoax or not real, what have you. It was pretty messed up, but I digress.I still love Scully and I loved the way Jonathan Maberry depicted young Scully in the book =)Now, when are the authors going to write more stories of young Mulder and young Scully because some of us want more! ❤

Could have been better
This book was okay. I am obviously an X-Files fan. Dana has always seemed interesting to me in the way she was pretty religious in most of her beliefs, but obviously bold in her scientific ones as well. I was pretty excited to read this book; to find a background story about how Dana Scully became the woman she is. However, this story was not only rather predictable, it really didn't seem to fit the Dana I know. It felt like the author wanted to write an X-files episode all book long, then remembered he had to tie it to Scully, so he forced it real quick at the end. Also, a few chapters had parts that went on longer than neccessary. I wanted it to be over so I could see if the book was going where I thought (it did), but hoped it wouldn't be that easy. Also, because I wanted so badly to know how the heck this was going to lead to adult Dana, disappointing. Fox's origins story was much better. This book would have been four stars had it not been intended to be Dana Scully's story.*Also, I don't think the author portrayed Dana's dad very well. The show made him out to be a strict military man, but gentle and loving toward his daughter. This book made him out to be a mega jerk.

Good story!
It was a bit slow moving at first, but it really sucked me in towards the end and I couldn't put it down. I could definitely see how this experience would make Scully the skeptic she is in the early seasons. She always did say she was a loner who had attachment issues. And the interesting tie in with Bill Scully's connection to the Syndicate was definitely interesting. All in all, I can see why she made a rebellious decisin to go into the FBI over medicine. But she seemed to be thinking medicine at the end of the novel. Wonder what happened between then and grad school. A review above mentions not seeing her doing jujutsu....but she must have gotten her moves in the series somehow. 😉

Has Some Fun Moments for Fans, Rushed Ending
Jonathan Mayberry's "The X-Files Origins: Devil's Advocate" follows a fifteen-year-old Dana Scully in 1979 as she experiences visions of a supposed angel who is killing teenagers in her town of Craiger, Maryland. Presented as an origin story to one of television's most popular characters, "Devil's Advocate" raises more questions than it answers. Scully's psychic visions seem drastically out of place for the character's later outlook on life and the manner in which she adopts a skeptical approach feels rushed at the end. The most interesting part of the story focuses on the work of the Syndicate, but that plays second-fiddle to the main plot. The new age shop Beyond Beyond, which appeared in Kami Garcia's "X-Files Origins" novel, "Agent of Chaos", plays a major role in this story with the owners/operators appearing in both. That crossover causes this to resemble "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" with characters occupying the same space and time as each other in a prequel. The religious nature of the killings is interesting and matches the tone of some of the best early "X-Files" episodes, but the overall novel is disjointed.

Excellent prequel to X Files.....
Answered a lot of questions about the origin of the X Files investigating team as well as Scully's hard core disbelief and skepticism...An excellent read.

Another Excellent Novel by Jonathan Maberry!
Another excellent novel by Jonathan Maberry! I am a big fan of his Joe Ledger Series and I loved his Rot & Ruin Series. The author does a superb job of portraying the teen Dana Scully with her natural affinity for structure, math & science combined with her intelligence, faith and ideals being drawn into danger and facing her fears in order to save lives and stop a serial killer. This experience in helps us to understand why Scully later chooses a career in medicine and law enforcement. I loved how the author described Scully's relationship with her sister and her father while keeping Dana focused on the mystery and adventure. I hope Maberry will write another X-File novel!

X Files fanatic
I loved the book. It was so exciting reading through the chapters as Scully’s beliefs teach higher heights. When she starts questioning the things she experiences the story takes hard turn. Once she finds inaccuracy in some of the people she trusts she becomes the true skeptic I know and love. I was in awe at how the author and the author of Mulder’s book took the time to connect them in proximity. One store essentially connects both the X Files Origin books together which was a wonderful take on the prelude to my favorite show. If you love The X Files then this is a book for you!

Espectacular
Como fan de Expediente X desde que tengo uso de razón, me parece una historia muy muy buena para intentar comprender por que nuestra amada Scully no puede dejar de lado su lado científico y racional. Una historia muy muy buena
