Umirro 8 - Outlet Surge Protector Power Strip Tower with 4 USB Charging Ports, 1080 Joules Surge Protection, 6.8A and 6' Heavy Duty Extension Cord, Pure Black

I bought this power tower to take the place of a power surge strip all of whose outlets but two failed within 6 months of my purchase. BUMMER!!! I have high hopes for this surge protector/USB charger. It's designed very well and does not take up a lot of space next to my recliner where it must be. The 4 USB ports are intelligently placed on the very top of the tower where they are easy to access. The four sides of 2 outlets each have switches that turn the two outlets off or on, as you wish them to be. I appreciate this feature because I have my young (and older) grandchildren and great-grandchildren over, and I don't want them to have access to turned-on outlets. I shall, nevertheless, likely put caps on any unused outlets because the switches can easily be turned off or on by the same young child that might try to put something into an outlet. There is an indicator light that tells you that your tower is on, and a reset button in the event that the surge protector must turn itself off, as most surge protectors have. It is a small button, and not as easily accessed by small fingers as the big reset switch on a power strip is. It's not inconvenient for me, so this is also a good feature. I shall keep this review updated if anything goes wrong with the unit in an inordinate amount of time. If there is nothing beyond this review, it can be taken that the unit is in good working order. As far as I can see at this point in time, though, this is a good power surge protector, and I hope it will last a good long time. I like it very much, and I think that you shall also.

I originally placed my order for this power strip at the beginning of May. I received my package two days later, and was excited to replace my old "standard" power strip that I could only plug in a few things at a time since the large plugs would overlap other sockets. I set the new one up, only to find that one of the sides didn't work. The light didn't come on when the switch was flipped, and no power came out of either socket. I was a bit disappointed, especially considering how much I really liked the product otherwise. The tower layout allowed me to use every plug I needed, and the additional USB outlets on the top removed the need for standard outlet-to-USB adapter for my devices. Shortly after I set up the strip, I got a follow up email about my purchase. I figured I'd go ahead and let them know that my product was defective. Wouldn't hurt, right? To my surprise, Umirro got back in touch with me quickly and wanted to confirm my shipping address so that they could send me a replacement. Their costumer service was exceptional, and the replacement I received works perfectly (I made sure to test every single outlet/plug). I'm more than happy with this power strip, and I'm glad I decided to go with this brand.

I have had this for over a year now and it continues to work. I use it in my office where I don't have a plug in close. It works so well and I am able to plug in everything that I need.

I got this to put on top of my desk for things with wall adapters, like my desk lamp, USB hub, network switch, and a few other devices. It works great for that, although I don't know if I would trust it with higher powered devices, like a desktop. It is bigger than you might think, close in size to a large, squat soap bottle. I was expecting close in size to a soda can, but I guess I just didn't pay attention to the size. The USB ports are useful for chagrining things like phones and battery banks.

Finally. The perfect power strip does in fact exist. With eight outlets spaced evenly (two on each of the fours sides of the unit) I will never run out of places for my plugs. I will never run out of USB charging ports with four outlets on the top. There is plenty of room in the Umirro for the largest, ugliest, most obnoxious wall warts. It is larger than it appears in the photos but still, it takes up less space on my shelf than a typical power strip because of its vertical orientation. Each of the four sides has its own "on/off" switch. The price is of course more than most power strips, but it is worth twice as much to me in terms of the convenience and space saving it affords. Umirro, where have you been all my life?

I have been using this for the last 4 years, but a few weeks ago, I unplugged one plug, and was in the process of replacing it with another (with no load) and as soon as the ground prong touched the ground plug, everything on that circuit shorted out, and seemed to have overheated the wire. Took the electrician a few hours to find, and a bill close to 1K - so yeah, not going to use this anymore. I see I'm not the only one that has had issues with this either.

I was surprised when I received my order on how heavy the box was. When I opened it and took out my power strip and surge protector I saw why, a well built high quality product. I was amazed at the sturdiness of the unit. The quality is unsurpassed. The packaging was a super. The three pronged plug even had it's own protective cap. What a great addition to my home office. I looooooooooove this surge protector. I was skeptical since the last one I purchased (from another seller on amazon) was a total bust. My wires fried and my devices started either corrupting or simply wouldn’t charge.But with this one everything works perfectly. The 4 USB ports on the top come in clutch! So far I’ve been able to have an industrial floor fan plugged in along with the charging cable for my MacBook, while also charging my iPhone and AirPods with no problem whatsoever.
