Economical version to the popular single-piece foam play mats
We were able to purchase this as an Amazon Lightning Deal for $60.We were first introduced to the heavier duty single-piece foam playmats that cost upwards into the $100 mark. This mat is indeed lighter in duty and weight than the $100 teired playmats. We were a little hesitant at first, but at nearly 1/2 the price, we figured worth the try. When we received our playmat, unlike other customer reviewers, we didn't notice any strong manufacturing smells or coating on the mat. BUT! just as a precaution, I took the playmat with me into the shower and gave soap and generous rinse just to make sure we don't introduce any unnoticed manufacturing residue to our 6month old.To flatten it the best we could, I layed it down and held each corner down with a box of diapers or baby wipes overnight. Unfortunately, that itself wasn't enough to keep the ends from curling up just slightly. Then i tried tightly curling the mat (just the ends though) opposite of how it arrived rolled up. That helped, but only lasted about and hour or two and started curling up again. I gave up on trying to make it completely flat. The ends only rose up off our carpet about 0.5-1inch - a tripping hazard, yes, but for rolling purposes, and sitting down with our baby to play and roll around, it's not that big of a deal. The size of the playmat (LxW) is about the size of a full size bed mattress. So it fits my 6', 235lb body laying down pretty well. It can also serve as a temporary mattress for those times the wife and/or baby kicks me out of my own bed :(I personally feel the mat size will be just fine for our baby into her toddler-adolescent years when baby is grown and independent enough to not want to stay in the same area of the house for extended amounts of time.2 concerns I do have:1. Because of how lighter duty the foam mat is, it seems more susceptible to tearing or abrasions compared to the $100 priced mats we've seen that seem to have a better sealed surface to it. Our baby explores the mat and occasionally "claws" at the surface, which we think could potentially start tearing if baby goes at it harder. For sure a walking and strong toddler can scratch the surface up. I'd compare the duty of the mat to some foam garden/knee pads for kneeling.2. Again, in comparison to the $100+ priced mats we were first introduced to, the edges on this mat are not necessarly sealed. They do, however, have a poly fabric line sewn over the edges, whereas the heavier duty mats seemed to be heat-pressed so that it didn't need a fabric sewn on to cover the edges. Not really a product quality issue, but again, threads tend to wear and could possibly bust, thus shedding the fabric liner and exposing the un-treated edges.I know there are similar play mats that come in pieces (eg. the ones with letters and numbers). We really wanted this single-piece foam mat so that baby wouldn't be able to unpiece the mat as it's easy with the puzzle-styled mats. This mat also has more give to it than those puzzle-style mats.I rated this 5/5 stars, considering the price we got it for, the overall acceptable durability of it, and the thickness of the foam play mat.We are very pleased with this mat.

Buy it, you won't regret it!
This is one of the best purchases I've made so far for our baby girl. Excellent in so many ways. Before she got into her crawling stage this was a great little area for her to see different colors while doing some tummy time. Throughout her weeks though she's started exploring more and now shes kind of skipped the crawling around stage, but is assisted standing by holding on to things and trying to do so without holding on, and its perfect for that too. It doesn't make us nervous that she'll fall because this is just firm enough to be comfortable but just soft enough to provide a soft fall. On top of that the edges being covered and the material itself is easy to clean. It's double sided with a plains scene on one side with a variety of animals and plenty of numbers/alphabets/animals on the other side to make this a very smart buy. I've gotten a few duds when it comes to baby products but this would definitely be something I would gift to someone. It's kind of goofy when you lay it out because we keep it rolled up, so the corners tend to curl up, but after an hour or so they sag and flatten out. I've included some pictures of texture and colors..Great item!

Kids love it. So does grandma.
I didn't even know things like this existed but we visited family and needed something for our 6 month old to play on their tile floors. They had a memory foam mattress topper and it worked great... but it was too thick for the baby to crawl on (and he's still learning). We'd been using a blanket at home which doesn't have the cushion we wanted. After a quick search on amazon I found this. So far my only complaint is that no one told me these existed for my first kid! It's waterproof so spit up doesn't saturate it. There is a waffle/grid design that DOES make it harder to clean up the spit up but my baby loves the sound it makes when he scratches it SO much that it makes up for the difficulty. Grandma can even get down and play with them (the 2 year old loves to play on it too). Bonus, if you roll it up to move it out of the way is a great tunnel to play in too. At least for two year olds. Bottom line, it's great.

Perfect amount of cushion to protect baby from falls.
Perfect amount of cushion to protect baby from falls. I bought this for my 6 months old (now 8 months) because we have hardwood floors and I wanted a safe surface she could play on that would protect her head when she topples over. This is very soft and thick. Works perfectly and is a nice large size. Other reviewers recommended washing is off before the first use to prevent any skin reactions from the dye, which we did and rolling it in the opposite direction for a night to get the curl out of it, which we also did and both were excellent suggestions. Highly recommend.

Good customer service
I loved this mat when I received it. My 6 month old was getting quite mobile and I was looking for a nice affordable mat for him. He seemed to enjoy the graphics on both sides of this mat and it was quite comfortable to play on. However, after only a couple months I notice the top thin layer began to delaminate. My baby was able to tear it apart once this happened making that side now unusable. I'm getting a refund. In this case I guess I got what I paid for****Edit 8/3Their excellent customer service contacted me and promptly sent me a replacement mat. Hopefully the mat I received previously was just an isolated incident.

The most padded baby play mat out there!
I've looked all over and this is the most cushioned play mat I could find. Well worth the prince. If you roll it up the opposite way it came and tie it tight with the supplied Velcro straps and leave it for one night, it totally fixes the puckering up problem other reviews complain about. It's so padded my husband and I will sometimes lay in the play pen with our sun and keep him company, it's become our families lazy hang out place! One downside tho, my baby got a little rash when he first played on it so I stuck it upright in the shower and sparingly rinsed it with water and dish soap and the. Let it air dry and patted it with towel. That fixed the problem!
