Exceptional
Starts out a little slow and suddenly becomes a page turner that keeps you awake all night. Also part of today's crazy domestic scene in the USA.

Not So Sure About This Espionage Thriller!
I tried to like this spy novel, initially seeing some of the depth, intrigue, and shadowy satire of a John le Carré tragic suspense. However, the book's initial strengths soon devolved into a rogue and repetitive Mission Impossible storyline. The preface is critical to the whole book, so take time to read it carefully, noting names and hidden meanings in the complex interactions between two senior Russian intelligence leaders. Thankfully, Kindle's search option made it easy to link some critical names back to the several chapters for explanatory information.Lots of action, violence, surprises, and characters make it challenging to know what's really going on among the crucial interactions among the ever-shifting characters surrounding Evan Rider, the invincable woman lead character with a secret past of her own.A difficult read with the author's convoluted storytelling with too many details and subplots that never really came together. I was not satisfied with the strange ending that included so many "tricks," forcing the story into an inconsistent end. Possibly, the book is the first of a series, but I am not motivated to follow additional installments.Perhaps the novel's greatest strength was its portrayal of the stupidity of US political leaders and the American press for being so gullible and too easily manipulated by Russian disinformation, dividing the country against itself into it's own destruction. Much revealed here creates huge distrust of the bureaucratic incompetence of US intelligence agencies and the foreign agents embedded deeply within its ranks and at the highest levels, all provoking national suicide. Yikes! Some might find the book a worthwhile read, while most will likely fin the work having too many inconsistencies with an unbelievable storyline. Too many details made the plot lack substance or larger meaning.Audible's narration helped me get through the trudge of shifting plots and characters. As an escape read, it was okay, but it seemed much longer than it actually was. The slow start and mixed plotlines were hard to follow, and the characters were mostly unlikable.I kept hoping for more and in the end grew disappointed with both the book and my slugging it out to the end. Ugh!Please read the preview available from Kindle before you buy.

The Nemesis Manifesto. Eric Van Lustbader
Agent Evan Ryder works for clandestine agency. It's existence is known but there interests are in protecting America and it's people. By any means necessary in the field. A group of Germans in Bavaria have surfaced welding enormous power. It would appear to be a type of resurgence of the third reich in their symbolism used and their brutal tactics. The upper echelon or leaders appear to be German. In actuality he is a Russian. High government officials in America are also involved in the organization who use the Raven as their primary organization identifier. This group are in fact backed financially by a group or cabal of billionaires. Americans. Very conservative , raging a war against the liberals in our government. Non stop action, intrigue, suspense. In closing an excellent read!!

Slow out of the box...Many characters who have mostly unpronuncial names. Once action and plot materialized, I started to read it well. Females were written as main characters which was refreshing for spy on spy. Plenty of travel and intrigue. 100 pages to get going and simular conspiracies from all Spy books 2016-2021.. Price was right so 7+ score.. Russia / China / Left extremists are in every book. Liked it enough to buy follow up last week.

Russian Meddling and Neo Nazi Terrorism
This was a book club selection. I rarely read spy novels but tried to have an open mind. It turned out that it wasn't as bad as I expected, although I don't plan to continue the series. On the positive side, lots of action and interesting plot twists. On the negative side, too many underdeveloped characters, as well as unexplained plot twists. I assume these will be addressed in later installments. For instance, why was Evan targeted by the Russians? Why was her family targeted? Who was Brenda, really? Why did she become a killing machine? What is the backstory on Lyudmila? How did she and Evan become friends? These are only some unanswered questions. So, 3 stars... After 480 pages, I expected some resolution. Although our super agent has eliminated the present danger, she has uncovered information that reveals that the Nemesis threat run deep....stay tuned!

good, but not quite in the same league as previous
I’m a big EVL fan and have loved the books he has written which I have read so far. There was something about this one though that didn’t quite gel for me. The opening scenes, set in Russia, seemed almost like they were written by someone else and didn’t have the usual description and characterisation. The name “Evan” grated when used as a female name, (possibly because where I am from it is used exclusively as a male name.) The fight scenes were below the usual standard and there seemed to even be a bit of wokery creeping in, with all the female characters being super strong and dangerous and all the male ones being spineless and pathetic. Nothing wrong with a strong female lead, but this came across as superfluous virtue signalling rather than being a natural extension of the principle’s character. (He did it brilliantly in “Sirens” though)

Readable
I had high hopes for this book after the meandering Bourne novels. Although quite readable it got to the stage where nearly everyone seemed to be a Russian agent and did not make sense (at least not to me). It is a shame as his early books were absolutely top notch.

Lustbader’s new hero is a woman
This has more in common with Bourne than a Ninja. A start to a series that will I suspect run and run, if you like his stuff more the same.

Complex thriller
You really need to maintain your attention in this fast moving thriller, the characters are well described and the pace is good, bit tenuous in parts but a good read

Unputdownable
Another brilliant gripping story from this master author . Fascinating twisting plot holds the reader to the very end. Leaves you wanting to read the sequel now.
