Does not work as advertised...
When it decided to work it seems to work well but when it decides not to work... and 90% of the time it does not want to stay connected. I have a 2012 F150 Lariat edition with the Ecoboost motor and I have been looking for an OBD2 scanner so I can track some of the advanced technology it has on it. The ScanTool OBDLink WiFi does not like to stay connected to my brand new Apple iPhone 7 plus when there is only 3 feet between them. I would not recommend this product to family or friends and it is going back.

wi-fi version is unreliable.
The wifi version ScanTool OBDLink MX Wi-Fi: OBD Adapter/Diagnostic Scanner for iOS, Android & Windows seems like a good idea, but it does not work well. No problem installing and setting up software, quickly gave me data, but within several seconds it would display a new "connected" message at which point the data display would stop updating, then another "connected" message a few seconds later and the data would start refreshing again, then it would repeat. There was no sign that the wifi connection was dropping, just the software thought connection was lost and regained, over and over again. I tried 2 different android phones and 2 different tablets and all gave the same experience. Very unreliable and useless for what I need it for. I will be returning it and will reorder the bluetooth version. I wanted the wifi version so that I could later use it in infrastructure mode and get greater distance but it is just too unreliable.

Never fails to disappoint.
Available features are tremendous. It really doesn't matter though, because the unit rarely connects. When a connection is established- not today after dozens attempts- PID and computed data is recorded and easy to review. The unit had stayed connected as long as seven minutes, which gets me through the initial phase of my commute.Customer service is offered only through a chat forum, and my post has gone unanswered for days. I've followed all of their recommendations for troubleshooting. I've reset the unit, removed and re-installed software, cycled my phone on and off, but my lip and wiggled my toes.Truely dissatisfied.

Junk.
I wish I'd visited the support forum for this product before I bought it. Ongoing issues for YEARS, no solutions forthcoming, "we've been waiting for an update to the wifi module for TWO YEARS" yet they continue to sell this piece of junk. Not recommended.

... the OBDLink and connection to your receiving device was easy to understand
The step by step setup instructions for installation of the OBDLink and connection to your receiving device was easy to understand. Connection to my android phone and windows laptop was easy, and remained connected without any interruptions. It does take a good minute for the connection to be establish due to running through all the parameters. But another big selling advantage the wifi OBDLink MX has is that the manufacturer has incorporated security measures into the device to prevent anyone else from connecting to it and accessing your cars information and more. The OBDwiz software provided by the manufacturer online is useful, but it's very limited in its capabilities. I am a little disappointing by how basic and limited the OBDwiz software is. Basically, it's obvious they want you to purchase their fully operational software for an additional $100++. The OBDwiz software does show lots of useful information, and allows for clearing faults, but the OBDLink MX is much more capability with fully functional software. I deducted one star because I was expecting their OBDwiz software to be more functional than it is. It would be nice if they would provide the fully functional software with the purchase of this device. If they did that, I firmly believe they would outsell their competition by a landslide, and their competition would turn over in the graves of history (lost in the dust).

Constantly disconnecting, I would stay away from this product.
I bought this after buying a cheap Chinese knock-off that didn't work. This product has a lot of promise, but is not there yet! Initially I was extremely happy as it worked with my app "Dash Command" and it actually did connect unlike the crappy Chinese Elm version I bought. However after about 15 mins of being connected it would continuously disconnect even while running the app. I found the disconnection issue frustrating and unacceptable so I returned it. Replaced it with a PLX kiwi 3, have had it about 3 weeks.....no issues at all and stays connected! When ithis item is actually connected, it does what you expect it to do.

Plugs right in but getting connected to a device was troublesome. It probably took 10 tries to finally get the software to connect after being on the devices wifi.worked until I shut the vehicle off to go into a store, when I came back out started vehicle, had connectivity issues again.Returned.Note: just because your vehicle has an OBD II plug doesn't mean your vehicle supports everything this tool claims to do.

Good device - great customer service.
Purchased the WiFi version of the OBDLink MX because I use iOS devices as well as MS Windows - based machines. All of my devices found the MX, though there was a slight delay; one has to be patient. Once connected and password provided, connection was simple and consistent. However, I initially had problems with the MX disconnecting randomly during downloads or uploads - not a comfortable situation. I contacted their support team who replaced the device - at no cost to me - with another unit that worked perfectly!Very happy with the OBDLink MX WiFi now, and very happy with customer support.

Good for secure WiFi DIY Diagnotics but software limited.
Too expensive for what it is, but that's because there's a lack of secure OBD2 WiFi devices on the market. The OBDLink app is one of the best but lacks documentation. It kept causing my Vauxhall Onsignia to stall, but I eventually found out from searching the web that the app can overload the ECU in the car causing it to crash & stall the engine. So I reduced the polling rate in the app Which seems to have fixed it. As with so many products, a great idea let down by lack of comprehensive help documentation.Has come in useful for DIY diagnostics and General DTCs but cannot show all proprietary Vauxhall DTCs that garage can with specialist equipment. I blame Vauxhall for lack of openness & trying to force people to have overpriced work done at dealers.

Not a professional grade error code scanner. But good features.
Pros:Easy to setup. Nice app for android.Cons:Did not read airbag code of my car (E46 BMW)Bug:Android app keeps asking for registration when I don't have Internet!!! This is really annoying! Because this is the wifi model it won't allow you to use the scanner and have internet at the same time so the registration pop-up is basically non-sense. With the bluetooth model it proly makes sense, but not with the wifi model!!!
